1 medium-sized cabbage, thinly sliced
1 large onion, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional)
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
Add the sliced onions to the pan and sauté until they become translucent and start to caramelize, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Add the sliced cabbage to the pan and toss to combine with the onions and garlic. Spread the cabbage evenly in the pan.
Sprinkle the salt, black pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using) over the cabbage. Mix well to coat the cabbage evenly with the seasonings.
Reduce the heat to low and cover the pan with a lid. Allow the cabbage to cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes tender and slightly caramelized.
Remove the lid and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, to crisp up the edges of the cabbage.
Once the cabbage is cooked to your desired level of tenderness and caramelization, remove it from the heat.
Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot as a delicious side dish.
